Take Me Out to the Ballpark

1st Day of School

The official school year has started! Sam started 1st grade on Tues. 9/4/07 with a full day. She was excited to eat lunch at school and see her friends but mommy was a little emotional. I've had Sam with me for most of the day for the last 6 1/2 years. I know she's growing up but it's hard to let go. Sam is in a 1st-2nd grade multi age classroom in order to challenge her a little. We met her teacher Mrs. A last week at open house and she seems really nice. I've heard excellent things about her, which is good because Sam has her for the next 2 years. Sam really enjoyed her 1st day and didn't miss me at all! She told me not to be sad because I still get to see her on weekends. Carly started preschool on Wed. 9/5. Her teacher is Mrs. B and she goes M/W/F from 9-11:30 AM. I dropped her off and went inside to help her get settled. Together we hung up her backpack and found her name tag. Then she took off and it was goodbye mom, hello school! Afterwards daddy picked her up and took Carly out for a special lunch. When she got home I asked Carly if she missed me and she said no too, with a little twinkle in her eye but said I love you mommy. I guess it's my job to raise independent daughters but still -- where's the love!

Super Skiing Sisters

We had Peyton's 1st birthday party at my family's cottage on Blue Lake on 8/25/07. It was a lot of fun. The next day Sam and Carly decided to get serious about skiing. Carly had tried unsuccessfully to get up on the training boom a few times (the metal bar that hangs off the side of the boat) but she wants to do whatever her big sister Sam can do. We constantly have to remind her she's only 3 years old. Imagine our surprise when she got up on the boom for the 1st time ever and skied halfway around the the lake! Amazing! Sam was not about to be outdone by her little sister. She's gotten up on the boom but was determined to ski behind the boat. The next step after the training boom is to attach a short rope to it. Sam got up but didn't like all the water that sprayed in her face so we decided to give her a try behind the boat. She got up on her 1st try, which was awesome! She didn't get very far but it's a lot harder than it looks. We are so proud of Sam and Carly!
